Butterball Comfort Calendars Campaign
Butterball’s Turkey Talk-line is the expert advice hotline for all things Thanksgiving. In addition to dishing out turkey tips, Talk-line Experts often provide emotional support to stressed callers.
To provide hosts with prep and pep, we created a daily calendar with turkey tips and reminders to take time for themselves — a physical version of the same support the Experts have provided for over 40 years.

Earned media campaign details:
-
Part 1: Butterball’s Turkey Talk-Line was fresh off its 40th anniversary. How do we earn media buzz and excitement around year forty-one?
Part 2: Coming out of years of social separation, how do we remain culturally sensitive and supportive?
-
Lean into the unexpected story: Beyond their world-class cooking advice, Talk-line Experts often found themselves providing a different kind of support during the holiday season: emotional support. They offered encouraging words, advice or just a listening ear for their callers. We combined decades of both cooking and emotional support advice into one place: a Thanksgiving-countdown calendar full of illustrated uplifting messages, reminders to protect mental wellbeing and those classic, time-tested turkey tips.
Acknowledge realities (not glaze over them): After years of social separation, holidays are more stressful and unpredictable for hosts. Butterball cannot deep fry stress away (yet), so rather than insisting the season is normal and perfect, we acknowledged our new reality and met hosts where they’re at mentally. During a time when emotional and mental health dominated social conversation, each page encourages intentional wellbeing, offers a chuckle or relaxing activity and reminds hosts support is always a text or call away.

Comfort Calendar Pages
Meet your host, Apron
Inspired by classic Butterball blue aprons, each day features a unique illustration of Apron doing a variety of Thanksgiving-related activities.
New York Times Bestselling author-illustrator Andy J. Pizza brought Apron to life. I selected Mr. Pizza as our illustrator because of his ability to visualize abstract concepts in a friendly, clever and often extremely adorable way. His illustrations brought personality, charm and character (literally!) to every page.
Cozy Comfort Packages
Media mailers
Apron sent out comfy-cozy care packages to all his media besties with self care-focused gifts: Butterball blue fuzzy socks, journal + pen, a classic recipe tin and two Comfort Calendars — one to keep, one to gift!
One editor accidentally broke embargo (!) and posted their package a little too early because of “omg how cuuute!!!” it was.
ComfortToks
Social content
Inspired by the “oddly-satisfying” trend, we created ComfortToks — behind-the-scenes videos of Mr. Pizza’s creation process narrated by an actual Talk-line Expert.
In addition, organic social got comfy too — posting the corresponding calendar page on Stories and milestone days in-feed. This allowed anyone to see the daily advice even if they weren’t able to snag a physical calendar in the giveaways.
Daily stories also mentioned our partners to cross-promote the brands.
